What is FFS?
FFS is the abbreviation for Form-Fill-Seal. It refers to a high-speed, fully automated packaging process in which film is used to form a bag, fill it with product, and seal it—all in one continuous operation on the same machine.
Core Purpose of FFS Co-extrusion Blown Film Machine
An FFS co-extrusion blown film machine is specifically designed to produce the heavy-duty packaging film required for FFS processes. This film is commonly known as FFS heavy-duty film or heavy-duty packaging film.
These films are primarily used for packaging heavy goods such as chemical raw materials, plastic pellets, grains, fertilizers, and other bulk or granular materials. Compared to traditional woven bags, FFS heavy-duty bags offer significant advantages including high moisture resistance, high strength, impact resistance, and puncture resistance, while also being easier to stack and store.
Core Technologies and Advantages
The key technologies of FFS co-extrusion blown film machines focus on production efficiency and film quality:
Multi-layer Co-extrusion Technology: The equipment typically employs 3 to 5-layer co-extrusion technology, combining different functional materials to impart various excellent properties to the film, such as barrier properties and heat sealability. With 5-layer co-extrusion technology, the film can be made very thin—for example, a film with a width of 550mm and thickness of only 0.12mm can achieve a production capacity of up to 520 kg/h.
Precision Thickness Control: Equipped with 360° thickness measurement systems and automatic air rings, the film thickness variation can be controlled within a very tight tolerance (e.g., 3μm), ensuring high quality and material savings.
High Automation and Intelligence: The production lines generally adopt PLC intelligent control, significantly reducing manual intervention. They can also be integrated with printing machines, internal embossing units, and other equipment to provide a one-stop solution from film production to printing and embossing, further enhancing production efficiency.
Comparison Summary
The 7-layer co-extrusion technology you learned about earlier focuses on high barrier properties for high-end food packaging, whereas the FFS co-extrusion blown film machine is more specifically tailored to provide high-speed, high-strength, automated packaging solutions for heavy industrial applications. Although both are based on multi-layer co-extrusion technology, their application directions and performance priorities are different.
