Stone paper is an environmentally friendly new type of paper made primarily from calcium carbonate (derived from limestone and other minerals, accounting for about 70-80% of the composition), combined with a small amount of non-toxic resin. Compared with traditional wood pulp paper, stone paper offers the following core advantages:
1. Forest Conservation
Stone paper comes from mines, and its production process requires no tree felling. Traditional paper production consumes about 20 trees (each grown for 20-40 years) to produce 1 ton of paper. Stone paper fundamentally changes this situation.
2. Water Conservation
The stone paper production process requires no water at all, whereas traditional paper production consumes approximately 200 tons of fresh water per ton of paper. Additionally, there are no steps such as cooking, washing, or bleaching, completely eliminating wastewater discharge.
3. Reduced Pollution Emissions
The production process does not require strong acids, strong alkalis, bleaching agents, or other chemicals, and emits no wastewater, solid waste, or toxic/harmful gases. Energy consumption per unit is about 2/3 of that of traditional papermaking, contributing to reduced carbon dioxide emissions.
4. Degradable or Harmless Incineration
Under sunlight, it naturally becomes brittle and degrades within 3-6 months
When buried underground, it degrades into stone powder within one year, returning to the soil
During incineration, the stone powder promotes complete combustion, producing no black smoke or toxic exhaust fumes, with very low carbon dioxide emissions
1. Waterproof and Moisture-Resistant
Stone paper is naturally waterproof. Even after being soaked in water for 10 minutes, once the surface is wiped dry, the writing or printing will not blur and can still be written on.
2. Tear-Resistant and Fold-Resistant
Stone paper has much higher tear and fold resistance than traditional wood pulp paper, making it less likely to be damaged and giving it a longer service life.
3. Mildew-Resistant and Insect-Proof
Because it contains no plant fibers, stone paper does not develop mold and is not susceptible to insect damage.
4. Excellent Printability
Stone paper holds ink firmly. Under inkjet printing, clarity can reach 2880 dpi (compared to 1440 dpi for traditional paper), with no color shift or fading.
1. Low Raw Material Cost
Limestone, calcite, and other mineral resources are abundant and inexpensive. The production cost of stone paper is 20-30% lower than that of traditional paper, and the market price is correspondingly 10-20% lower.
2. Smaller Equipment Footprint
Stone paper production equipment takes up only 1/10 of the floor space required for traditional papermaking equipment, and the number of workers needed is only 1/3 of that for traditional papermaking.
Stone paper can be applied across many fields:
Cultural paper: printing paper, writing paper, sticky note pads, document folders, etc.
Disposable daily necessities: trash bags, shopping bags, tablecloths, raincoats, table mats, etc.
Building and decoration: decorative wallpaper, etc.
Industrial packaging: fertilizer bags, cement bags, handbags, cartons, etc.
Specialty paper: paper for outdoor operations, underwater operations, underground mining operations, etc.
Overall, stone paper is a new type of material that combines environmental protection, durability, and economy. It has incomparable advantages over traditional paper in terms of forest conservation, water savings, and pollution reduction, aligning well with the current direction of low-carbon economic development.
